  • Drafting Wills

Kiswani Law can draft your will to ensure your estate is distributed according to your wishes. Kiswani Law will provide a notary and witnesses to your signing of the will such that you can be sure your will is compliant with Illinois law and will be enforced. As part of this process, we can also draft the supporting letter to notify your chosen executor of their role while keeping the contents of your will confidential. If you reside in Illinois at the time of your death and if Kiswani Law is notified in a timely manner of your passing, Kiswani Law is also able to file your will with the clerk of the county in which you last resided.

  • Drafting Codicils

If your will is already drafted to your satisfaction, but you have since acquired additional property or valuables, Kiswani Law can draft a codicil to distribute the newly acquired property according to Illinois law while leaving your current will in place.

  • Drafting Powers of Attorney

Additionally, Kiswani Law can prepare both Healthcare Powers of Attorney and Property Powers of Attorney in the event that you wish to assign someone to make decisions on your behalf in the event that you are ever unable to make your own decisions during your lifetime. Unlike a will, which becomes effective at the time of death, a power of attorney is only effective during your lifetime and terminates at the time of death.

  • Uncontested Probate

If you are the executor of a will and require assistance in the court filings, any necessary court appearances, notifying creditors, and following through with distributing the estate of the deceased, Kiswani Law can help smooth the process, as we understand that the court system can be confusing and intimidating to those who are not familiar with it, especially during the difficult period of losing a loved one.

  • Guardianship

If your loved one is disabled and unable to manage their own monetary assets and/or personal decisions such as managing doctor’s appointments or medication, Kiswani Law can assist in obtaining guardianship for that person or assist in appointing an agency to serve as guardian. We then assist in the annual filings necessary to continue guardianship and ensure that your loved one’s needs are met pursuant to the court’s requirements.
